On Saturday, what remains of the Big East put up an exhausting thriller as #25 Notre Dame finally overcame #11 Louisville in South Bend in QUINTUPLE OVERTIME. As Stan Verrett confirms in the highlight package below, this was the longest regular season game in Big East history. (Longest game ever? A 75-73, 7 OT snoozer between Cincinnati and Bradley in pre-shot clock 1981. 75-73. That means those teams played almost an entire second game of overtime and still only put up a standard basketball score. Syracuse and UCONN also played a 6 OT game during the Big East Tournament back in 2009.) Yeah you could be mad at Louisville’s Russ Smith for those three terrible words (“decision–making–ability”) but really this game was bigger than that. Five overtimes during which both teams added 30+ points to their scores. I’m cramping up just thinking about it.
