Back in 2010, there was a little sports podcast beaming out into the world from California that described itself as ‘gchat for your ears.’ It was super low budget, which is to say it had no budget, and it ran about ten episodes before fading back into the internet. Before long Justin Bieber and planking and breading cats happened and there was hardly a trace left. Then, just after New Years 2012, a twinkle of hope winked out into space from Chapel Hill, NC.
In the time that has passed between then and now, a lot has changed. We moved across the country; we started graduate school; we tried to get real jobs and ended up working as towel boys at the gym. Again. Kobe got a little older, the Giants somehow won another Super Bowl, and Tiger Woods is now terrible at golf. Phil Rivers forgot how to play quarterback for long stretches, UNC and Michigan State played a basketball game on the aircraft carrier off which we dumped Osama bin Ladin into Davy Jones’ locker (AMERICA!), and we all came down with Linsanity. Oh, the Linsanity.
Yet some things remain the same. The BCS still serves up the interdivisional SEC match ups the country demands for the NCAA college football national championship game. Mayweather still won’t fight Pacquiao. The Clippers are still the worst team in basketball. (Wait– what?) And now the podcast is back and this time for good. Now there is a little bit of a budget (look at that URL up there– how, um, unique!) and a new look, but the passion for sports nonsense remains the same. We’re here to break it all down, build it all back up, and accuse everyone else in the world and each other of doing it wrong. But you know what? You’re at work. Let’s talk about the games last night. Did you see…
Gchat for your ears.
